Week 202129

Brazilian ornamental stone exports registered the best first half of the last five years. From January to June 2021, the sector had revenues of US$572 million, against US$566 million listed in the same period in 2017.

The data was released last week by CENTROROCHAS (the Brazilian center for dimension stone exporters), which signed a sector agreement at the end of May with the Brazilian Export and Investment Promotion Agency (Apex-Brasil) to promote Brazilian stones abroad.

From the pre-pandemic period to the present day, the segment registered an increase. In 2019, the year before the impacts caused by the global health crisis, Brazil closed the first half of the year with revenues of US$ 489 million. In 2020, at the height of all tension and market instability, sales fell to US$ 397 million. However, from January to June of this year, with restrictions still in place but with the economy showing signs of recovery, the sector registered an increase of almost 17% in revenues from exports.

The United States, China, and Italy were the three biggest consumers of Brazilian rocks in the first six months of this year. The American market primarily consumes manufactured rocks (plates), while Chinese and Italian consumers prefer rough rocks (blocks).
