Rio Grande do Sul is the third-largest milk producer in Brazil, producing approximately 13% of all national production. In the first half of 2021, the company registered the largest movement of dairy products to other states in the history of Tecon Rio Grande. The container terminal reached the level of 542 TEU handled.
Through cabotage, the products were sent to Pernambuco, Bahia, and Amazonas through the ports of Suape, Salvador, and Manaus, respectively. Total volume grew by 129.6% in the semester, increasing 306 TEU compared to the same period in 2020.
According to Emater-RS, the state produces 4.5 billion liters of milk/year.
For Paulo Bertinetti, CEO of Tecon Rio Grande, the results of moving powdered milk to states in the Northeast and North are encouraging. According to Bertinetti, the cabotage modality is perfectly suited to this type of cargo, as it allows producers to reach new markets within the country’s borders, with two weekly departures from Rio Grande connecting with the main Brazilian ports. “Cabotage is a type of operation that takes cargo from Rio Grande do Sul to other states in Brazil. Tecon Rio Grande concentrates all the structural conditions to create opportunities for more business to be done through our terminal”.
