Truck parking lot to be built at Alemoa, in Santos

The Santos Port Authority (APS) asked IBAMA (federal environmental agency) for an installation license to open a truck parking lot in a 38,000 m2 area in Alemoa. The document, signed by the director-president of the APS, Fernando Biral, was published in the August 11th edition of the Official Federal Gazette.
The application informs that this is the “first phase” of parking, in a process that has been underway at the institute since 2004. At this stage, according to a note sent to the newspaper A Tribuna by the APS, it is expected to open “just over 100 spaces” in “one area that integrates the land of the former (federal) railroad network”, a state-owned passenger and cargo transport company that stopped operating in 1999.
The objective is to provide a structure for truck drivers to stop and stay, with services such as tire repair, cafeteria, and restrooms. Today, the site is occupied on a rotational basis by 100 to 150 trucks at the same time, but without infrastructure.
The Port Authority is also analyzing conceptual projects to offer “necessary facilities to guarantee minimum safety, sanitary, and comfort conditions for truck drivers”, preferably autonomous drivers, in two areas in Ponta da Praia. There is no completion date set.
