Agribusiness exporters and the FPA (agricultural parliamentary coalition) met with the federal government on September 22nd in Brasília to debate solutions to the maritime trade bottlenecks that are affecting the sector’s competitiveness.
The meeting was with the Ministry of Finance’s Secretary for Infrastructure Development, Gustavo Ene, and other members of the Ministry. There was dissatisfaction among exporters with the lack of dialogue with the government.
According to CECFÉ (the council of Brazilian coffee exporters), the meeting aimed to signal the economic and social impacts that logistical obstacles have caused to the country and “to seek solutions via synergies with the federal government to mitigate the emergency and find medium and long-term solutions.”

CECAFÉ highlighted the impacts of the logistical obstacle in its exports: Between May and August, approximately 3.5 million bags of coffee were not shipped, causing a loss of US$ 500 million in revenue.
In addition to CECAFÉ, other associations that participated in the meeting included CNA (the confederation of Brazilian agriculture and livestock of Brazil); ABIPESCA (the Brazilian association of fish industries); IBA (the Brazilian cotton institute); ABIEC (the Brazilian association of meat-exporting industries); and ABRAMILHO (the Brazilian association of corn producers).
