Oct, 08, 2021 Posted by Ruth HollardWeek 202138
Brazil exported 191,000 tons of cotton last month, 11.7% less than in September 2020, according to a survey by ABRAPA (the Brazilian association of cotton producers) based on data from SECEX (the foreign trade secretariat). In the same comparison, revenue rose 3%, to $325.9 million.
The biggest importers of Brazilian cotton in September were China and Vietnam, which bought more than 30,000 tons each. The two countries represented 46% of shipments in the month.
See the chart below for a history of Brazilian cotton exports since January 2018. Data are from DataLiner:

The harvest of the 2020/21 cotton crop in Brazil is practically over, according to ABRAPA, with only 2% of the area planned for Minas Gerais yet unfinished. Until now, 55% of the total, estimated at 2.3 million tons, has already passed to processing. The pace is below the 60% registered in the same period last year.
So far, 11% of what has been processed has already gone to export and another 17% to domestic consumption. ABRAPA claims that 85% of Brazilian production has already been sold.
