RS ports remain profitable in September

On October 19, Portos RS released cargo handling results for January to September 2021. The numbers take into account the operations carried out through the ports of Rio Grande, Pelotas, and Porto Alegre, in addition to the terminals that make up the industrial district of Rio Grande.

Over the nine months, the numbers were strong and show growth in relation to the same periods of the years 2020 and 2019. In Rio Grande, handling reached 34,460,840 tons, an increase of 12% compared to 2020, while Pelotas handled 1,081,552 tons and Porto Alegre handled 807,115 tons.

Soybeans registered a positive variation of 18.22% with 11,207,302 tons handled so far. Soybean meal handling also increased; in the nine-month period,  2,674,282 tons were handled, an increase of 17.67% compared to last year.

At the Port of Pelotas, total cargo handled increased 43.09% compared to the same period last year, with emphasis on wood logs, which reached 837,789 tons YTD. Clinker ranks second, with 195,420 tons handled, and soybeans rank third, with 48,344 tons.

In Porto Alegre, the handling of fertilizers continues to drive operations, with 560,712 tons handled. Barley ranks second, with 117,763 tons; then ‘other goods’, with 63,390 tons; wheat, with 38,544 tons; and salt, with 26,706 tons. The positive variation between 2020 and 2021 reached 23.86%.
