The first of 10 ‘green’ LNG-fed container ships of 15,000 TEUs, contracted by the Israeli shipping operator ZIM Integrated Shipping Services is now being built.
The steel cutting ceremony for the ZIM Sammy Ofer took place last month at Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) in South Korea, according to the company’s update.
Seaspan Corporation, a Hong Kong-based shipowner, operator, and subsidiary of Atlas Corp, placed an order for the vessels in early 2021. They’ll join the ZIM fleet to serve the carrier’s Asia-East Coast routes.
Ship deliveries are scheduled to begin in the first half of 2023. The charters will have a 12-year term.
