The ornamental stone industry sets a new export record

Brazilian ornamental stone exports surpassed revenue levels recorded prior to the pandemic and throughout the market’s history in 2021. According to the Brazilian Center for Ornamental Stone Exporters (Centrorochas), the country earned US$1.34 billion last year.
Between January and December, the domestic industry shipped 2.4 million tons to 132 countries on five different continents and hit a growth of 35.5% compared to 2020. The United States was the number one destination for ornamental stones, accounting for 62.7% of all exports. China (11.5%), Italy (6.5%), and Mexico (3.8%) rank second to fourth following the US. These four countries are among the sector’s eight target markets.
Largest exporting states
Espírito Santo (83.3%), Minas Gerais (9.9%), and Ceará (2.8%) were the states that exported ornamental stones the most last year. Espírito Santo, the main exporter, earned a total of US$ 1.14 billion, accounting for 83.3% of the total financial worth generated by stone exports.
During the year, the state grew by 37.02% in dollars and 8.95% in tons, indicating an organic growth of 25.77 percent in the added value of exported materials calculated as the average price (dollar/ton).
Minas Gerais generated US$ 132.76 million and grew 25.5%, keeping it as the second-largest Brazilian power among exporters. Ceará, on the other hand, accumulated a total of US$ 37.87 million and experienced a 50% increase in exports during the period, with a focus on the shipment of quartzite, either raw or processed.
