Argentina’s gas exports nearly double in July

Argentina’s gas exports rose 85% year-on-year in July, driven by producers targeting the Chilean market.
Favorable prices and restrictions on domestic transport – plus an effort to secure firm year-round exports to Chile – are whetting the appetite of Argentine upstream companies, particularly those operating in the Vaca Muerta formation.
Companies transported 3.90 MMm³/d (millions of cubic meters per day) in July, with shipments to Chile rising 100% to 3.62 MMm³/d, offsetting a 7% drop in exports to Uruguay, which reached 280,000 m³/d. Brazil did not receive Argentine gas in July, according to data from the gas sector regulator Enargas.
Gas exports typically fall during Argentina’s coldest months – from October to April – as production is prioritized for domestic consumption. Shipments, for example, were 9.9 MMm³/d in December in the summer.
Total gas production in Argentina was 139 MMm³/d in June, up 9.6% year-on-year, according to data from the energy research institute General Mosconi.
