Revenue from Brazilian poultry genetics exports (including fertile eggs and genetic material) totaled US$ 12.7 million in January, according to the Brazilian Association of Animal Protein (ABPA). The number is 5.1% lower than the 2021 figures when US$ 13.4 million was registered.
Shipments of genetic material totaled 77 tonnes, down 34.8% from 119 tonnes the previous year. In terms of revenue, the balance of sales totaled US$ 8.192 million, down 16.8% from the US$ 9.843 million reported in January 2021.
In the case of fertile eggs, the volume exported reached 1,097 thousand tons, 11.5% higher than the 984 tons shipped in the first month of 2021. The sales generated a revenue of US$ 4.585 million, a number 26.7% higher than the US$ 3.618 million made in the previous year.
Among the January fertile egg export destinations, Senegal stands out, with 412 tonnes (-9.6%), followed by Mexico, with 353 tonnes (+43.7%), and Paraguay, 173 (-10.7 %). In the case of genetic material, the highlights were Paraguay, with 46 tonnes (-45.2%), Bolivia, with 12 tonnes (+58.7%), and Ecuador, with 6 tonnes (-21.4%).
“In addition to traditional markets in South America and Africa, sales of Brazilian poultry genetics gained ground in Mexico. The sanitary status of Brazil, which is free of Avian Influenza, should maintain the poultry genetics exports industry competitive and with highly added-value in the international market this year,” says Ricardo Santin, president of ABPA.
