The Brazilian trade balance shows a surplus of US$ 3.55 billion in the first two weeks of April

The trade balance recorded a surplus of US$ 3.55 billion in the first two weeks of April, according to data released on Monday night (11) by the Foreign Trade Secretariat (Secex) of the Ministry of Economy. The mobilization of the ministry’s workers delayed disclosing the data, which usually happens at 3 pm.
The positive balance in the first two weeks of April stems from exports of US$ 8.946 billion and imports of US$ 5.389 billion in the period. In the year, the balance recorded a surplus of US$ 15.356 billion.
The daily average of exports advanced 14.4% to US$ 1.491 billion in the first two weeks of April when compared to the same month last year. The advance was driven by sales from the manufacturing industry (+34.2%) and extractive industry (+2.6%). On the other hand, agricultural exports dropped 4.4% on the same basis of comparison.
The daily average of imports grew 11.6% in the first two weeks of the month when compared to April 2021, to US$ 898.2 million. Agriculture led purchases (+25.65), followed by the manufacturing industry (+16%). Imports from the extractive industry fell by 37.4%.
