The Brazilian Footwear Industries Association (Abicalçados) announced, in its latest trade balance assessment, that Paraguay increased its footwear exports to the Brazilian market to triple digits in the first quarter of 2022.
In terms of volume, Abicalçados reports that, in the first three months of the year, 246,246 pairs of Paraguayan-made footwear entered Brazil, a number 303.6% higher than the result obtained between January and March 2021.
Despite this remarkable acceleration, the results are pessimistic in terms of value. According to data from the Brazilian organization, Paraguayan footwear exports to Brazil totaled 245,492 dollars in the first quarter of this year, a 36% decrease from the first three months of fiscal 2021, when the Brazilian industry allocated US$383,828 for the purchase of Paraguayan shoes.
Similarly, Paraguay’s position has not changed. The country is still among the top ten global footwear suppliers for the Brazilian market, trailed only by Vietnam, China, Indonesia, Italy, India, Cambodia, Laos, Bangladesh, and Spain.
It’s also worth noting that, as of the end of the first quarter, Paraguay remains the only Latin American country on the list of footwear suppliers for the Brazilian market.
