Brazil consultation on Mercosur-EU sustainable goods ends Wednesday

Companies and organizations working in environmental conservation have until Wednesday, September 2, to take part in a Brazilian government consultation on Mercosur-EU sustainable goods.

The public consultation, led by Brazil’s development, industry, trade and services ministry MDIC, aims to identify sustainable products and supply chains from Mercosur that could gain stronger access to the European market.

The Mercosur-European Union free trade agreement, promulgated in March, provides additional trade benefits for sustainable goods.

Brazil’s Secretariat of Foreign Trade, known as Secex, is collecting suggestions of products that support the conservation, restoration, sustainable use and management of forests and other vulnerable ecosystems.

Who can take part

The consultation is open to different groups interested in expanding sustainable trade with Europe, including companies, universities, research institutions, civil society organizations, representatives of supply chains and other stakeholders.

The contributions may help identify Brazilian sociobiodiversity products — goods linked to local biodiversity and traditional or regional production systems — as well as supply chains that combine economic activity with environmental conservation.

Possible trade benefits

Products selected for the list established under the agreement may receive preferential or additional access to the European Union market, along with other incentives aimed at trade promotion.

In practice, the consultation seeks to identify Brazilian products with sustainability attributes that could expand their presence in Europe.

Participation also allows companies, business groups and supply-chain representatives to submit products with potential to receive differentiated trade treatment.

How to participate

Submissions must be sent through the official Brasil Participativo platform by September 2, 2026.

According to MDIC, the contributions are important for building the product list provided for under the Mercosur-EU agreement and for identifying trade opportunities linked to sustainability.

With the deadline approaching, companies and organizations interested in proposing products or supply chains for the Mercosur-EU sustainable goods list should submit their contributions before the consultation closes.
