TCP set a historical record for cargoes transported via railway

TCP, the company that manages the Paranaguá Container Terminal, surpassed another historic milestone in terms of railway use. In March, 14,652 TEUs were transported via railways, a number higher than the previous record set this year, 13,530 TEUs in January 2022.

The 7.5% growth resulted from new projects developed in partnership with exporters, including the world’s largest intermodal logistics project dedicated to a single customer in the container industry.

Most of the containers handled in March contained meat and frozen foods (68%), followed by paper and cellulose, which represented 30% of the total volume.

“The KBT project, which started in September 2021, is largely responsible for this growth. It connects the container terminal next to the Klabin factory in Ortigueira, Paraná, to our terminal in Paranaguá via railroad. Since the beginning of the operation, we have handled 10,000 TEUs on the railway just for this project”, adds Thomas.

Based on the first quarter of 2022, an 11% increase in railroad transportation is anticipated until the end of the year, fueled by the KBT project, which is expected to quadruple the volume of containers on the TCP railway in the following two to three years.
