The Moroccan fertilizer company Office Chérifien des Phosphates (OCP) intends to install a phosphate production unit in Brazil. A delegation of members of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply met with representatives of the Moroccan state-owned fertilizer company, which is the second-largest producer of the product in the world, on May 12. The meeting took place in Rabat, the capital of Morocco.
According to the ministry, the Moroccan company’s intention to expand contributes to the National Fertilizer Plan, launched in March to stimulate national production of phosphate and compensate for the lack of the product felt since the war between Russia and Ukraine started.
In the assessment of the Minister of Agriculture, Marcos Montes, the company’s vision is in synergy with Brazil’s goals for sustainability and global food security.
Morocco has about 70% of the world’s phosphate rock reserves and is the biggest supplier of phosphorus to Brazil. The Moroccan state-owned company has been operating in Brazil since 2010 and has seven offices in the country.
