President Jair Bolsonaro announced on the morning of the 16th a new tax reduction for video game imports, consoles, and related accessories.
On social media, Bolsonaro announced that the decision will take effect on July 1.
“On imports of parts and accessories for consoles and video game machines, instead of the current 16%, the reduced rate will be 12%,” posted the president.
As for video games with built-in screens, portable or not, the tax was zeroed. Previously, the rate applied to these products’ final prices was 16%.
In October 2020, Bolsonaro announced a reduction in the tariffs levied on industrialized items like video games and their accessories in three different ranges. The tax went from 40% to 30% on game consoles and machines, 32% to 22% for accessories, and 16% to 6% for equipment with built-in screens.
The president’s official Twitter account stated that the federal government has been cutting or eliminating product tariffs since 2019. “For example, those to combat AIDS, cancer, covid following its development, food that forms the staple basket, gasoline, consumer goods, and many others,” he stated.
