Container Throughput Grows 22.3% in the First Quarter in Santa Catarina

The ports of Santa Catarina handled the equivalent of 718.4 thousand twenty-foot containers (TEUs) from January to March this year, marking a 22.3% increase compared to the same period last year. Exports accounted for 51.4% of container throughput, while imports represented 48.6%. The data is from the National Waterway Transport Agency (Antaq).
Itapoá Port led container throughput among Santa Catarina terminals and ranked third nationwide, reaching 366.6 thousand containers in the year’s first quarter—a 38.1% increase.
At Portonave, container throughput from January to March totaled 263.7 thousand TEUs, representing a 13.6% decline compared to the same period in 2024. Despite the drop, Portonave remained the fourth-largest terminal in the country. The port of Navegantes is currently undergoing construction, with one of its berths closed for operations.
Itajaí Port continues its recovery, moving 58.6 thousand containers. Meanwhile, Imbituba Port is gaining ground, with throughput rising 76.4% year-to-date through March, reaching 29.5 thousand TEUs.
Considering only March, Santa Catarina’s ports moved 247.16 thousand containers—a 23.3% increase compared to the same month in 2024.
