Second corn crop yields start arriving at Brazilian ports

Following the soybean harvest, VLI’s integrated system is now beginning to transport corn, which has a significant growth estimate in 2022 after a year of crop failure. The first wagons filled with grains are leaving the company’s railway terminal in Palmerante, Tocantins.
These shipments harvested from the second corn crop are being transported by VLI through the Norte-Sul railway and exported to Asia and Europe through the São Luis Port Terminal (TPSL).
The expansion of the multimodal system operated by VLI promotes the development of the new Brazilian agricultural frontier by creating opportunities for capturing and distributing agrarian goods in the Matopiba region, including the states of Maranhão, Tocantins, Piauí, and Bahia.
According to the National Supply Company (Conab), the expectation for corn production in this second harvest is 90 million tonnes vis-a-vis 57.1 million in the same period in 2021 – considering the output in the Matopiba region.
VLI currently uses three logistical corridors to serve the flow of corn. In addition to the North-South Section of the North-South railway, VLI administers the Center-Southeast and Center-East Corridors of the Centro-Atlântica Railroad (FCA).
The company owns other important assets that confer agility and connectivity to the outflow of corn in the country, including railroad terminals in Araguari, Pirapora, Santa Luzia, and Uberaba; a terminal in Porto Nacional, Tocantins; and a terminal in Porto Franco, in the state of Maranhão.
