In the first five months of 2022, Chilean exports of manufactured and industrial products totaled US$ 3,567 million, registering a 55% increase compared to the same period in 2021, according to a report by the Undersecretariat for International Economic Relations (Subrei), with data from the National Customs Service.
Regarding geographic areas, Latin America emerges as the leading destination for shipments from the processing industry, representing 50% of the value of shipments, followed by Asia (19%), North America (17%), Europe (12%), and Africa and the Middle East (3%).
“The production and export of manufactured products are relevant to increase the resilience of Chilean foreign trade since goods with higher added value and technical degree have less volatile prices and are more dynamic in world trade. In addition, they promote the employment of skilled labor and have strong links with other economic sectors, ” undersecretary José Miguel Ahumada.
Of the total exported to Latin America, the main destinations are Mercosur, which represents 41% of shipments, and member countries of the Pacific Alliance, with 39%. Other important regions are Panama (8%), Ecuador (6%), and Central America (3%).
Among the main products exported to the region are steel bars, copper wires, nitrates, polypropylene, steel balls for grinding minerals, gearboxes, metal containers, glass bottles, water heaters, machines for processing minerals, medicines, self-adhesive papers, paper bags, metallic screw caps, vehicle bodies, tires, resin cement, paints, varnishes and dyes, fabrics, faucets, stoves, boilers, among others.
