Cesari Group buys company to enter the port market

With the aim of expanding its portfolio of services, the Cesari Group announced its entry into the port market last week after purchasing ConPort Afretamentos Marítimos, which is renamed Comportce Companhia Portuária Cesari. The negotiation – whose values were not revealed – makes the 60-year-old company, specialized in transporting chemical products and container storage, active in solid bulk operations at the Port of Santos.

“Even though we are active in this market through other services, we are mainly a cargo storage area. Now, with Conport, our logistics solution is complete, as we can offer synergy to our customers between the storage back area and port operations. First, we only worked with what came out of the Port of Santos, but now we are working inside it,” explains Giovanni Borlenghi, business director at the Cesari Group.

With the acquisition, there will be room for 120 thousand tonnes of soda and sodium sulfate, ConPort’s specialties, to be stored in the Cesari Group’s terminal in Cubatão, which is located on an area of more than 2 million m² between the Left and Right banks of the Port of Santos and has a structure that can accommodate 750 thousand tonnes of products.

“With a focus on the items with which ConPort works, sodium sulfate and ash, port management service becomes part of our business. As a result, our clients may now enjoy a comprehensive solution in what were previously associated but independent tasks,” explains Borlenghi.

Negotiation 

The Cesari Group’s business director explains that, after a few months of negotiation, the company acquired 100% of the shares in ConPort, which since the 14th has been called Comportce.”The idea was to keep the name, but with an adjustment to stay with the naming standards of the companies in the group.”

However, the staff and structure of the company, which is headquartered in the Center of Santos, remain the same. “Today, the staff is composed of around 30 or 40 people.  The idea is to make this team our own and expand the staff through more job opportunities when this partnership bears fruit. We must exploit well what this acquisition brings in terms of synergy and opportunity.”

Borlenghi stresses that the idea is to expand Comportce, and the companies’ structures will remain independent. “Of course, there will be synergy and exchange of experiences, with one company supporting the other, but they will continue with their current structures. (…) We made this first move as a matter of opportunity. The conversations with ConPort flowed very synergistically.”

Activities

With its main activities in the Santos region, but with its presence branching out to the entire country, the Cesari Group owns storage terminals for solid and liquid bulk. In addition, it performs storage, maintenance, and container leasing services. The business group also transports chemical products and works on the commercialization and industrialization of fertilizers.
