Meager import appetite in China: soybeans down 24.5%; corn down 44.4%

Chinese soybean imports totaled 7.17 million tonnes in August this year, down 24.5% from the same period last year, according to data released by the General Administration of Customs of China (GACC) on the 19th.
Year to date, the Asian country imported 61.33 million tonnes of the oilseed.
Moreover, China purchased 30,000 tonnes of soybean oil in August this year, down 76% from the volume recorded a year earlier.
From January to August 2022, imports of the commodity totaled 210 thousand tonnes.

Chinese imports
Chinese corn imports reached 1.8 million tonnes in August, a volume 44.4% lower than in August 2021.
Year to date, the country imported 16.93 million tonnes of the cereal.
As for wheat, the Chinese imported 530,000 tonnes last month, down 25.4% year-on-year.
Year-to-date, wheat imports by the Asian country totaled 6.25 million tonnes.
China imported 110,000 tonnes of cotton last month, up 24.9% compared to the same time range in 2021.
Imports of natural fiber totaled 1.37 million tons between January and July this year.
Dairy imports reached 260 thousand tonnes in August, 5.9% less than in the same period of the previous year. Between January and August, the country bought 2.29 million tonnes of dairy products from the foreign market.
Chinese sugar imports totaled 680,000 tonnes in August, an increase of 35.8% compared to the same month of the previous year. Year-to-date, imports of the sweetener reached 2.73 million tonnes.
