Chinese chicken imports set to increase 15.4% in 2023, says USDA

Chinese imports of chicken meat are expected to total 750,000 tonnes in 2023, up 15.4% from 2022, according to a report by the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) chapter in Beijing.
The estimate does not include chicken feet.
The USDA said that in 2022, avian influenza outbreaks limited Chinese imports from several countries, including the United States.
The USDA said that China’s chicken meat production in 2023 is expected to be flat from 2022 at 14.3 million tonnes.
Domestic consumption should increase by about 0.5% to 14.475 million tonnes.
Chinese chicken meat exports in 2023 are expected to grow 4.5% from 2022 to 575,000 tonnes. According to the USDA personnel in Beijing, this is due to the anticipation of normalization of consumer demand in other countries.
