Paraná state port authority Portos do Paraná held on October 26 and 27, both online and in person, public hearings to discuss the leasing of port areas PAR15 and PAR14 in Paranagua. These discussions are essential to improve the bidding processes of the assets soon to be auctioned off.
“A public hearing marks the beginning of the bidding process of these port areas, which are extremely important for the flow of solid vegetable bulk through Paranagua’s export corridor,” explains the Administrative and Financial director and president of the Commission for Bidding and Port Leases (CLAP) from Portos do Paraná, Marcos Alfredo Bonoski
Both areas are currently operational but suffer from precarious exploration contracts, according to Bonoski, which limits more solid investments. “With the new lease process, we seek to obtain legal safeguards so that investments may come in better conditions to the Port of Paranagua, helping to meet growing demand,” he says.
PAR15 is a brownfield area (with existing structures) spanning approximately 39 thousand square meters. It is located east of Paranaguá’s organized port. The total investment for the area is expected to be around R$ 657 million.
PAR14 is approximately 50 thousand square meters in size, classified as brownfield (with existing structures), and located east of Paranaguá’s organized port. The total investment for the area is expected to be around R$ 1.19 billion.
Hearings
About 30 people participated in the face-to-face hearings, both held at the administrative headquarters of Portos do Paraná (Palácio Taguaré), including members of the port community, business people, stakeholders, representatives of Portos do Paraná and the National Agency for Waterway Transportation (Antaq).
In the online sessions, the Infra S.A (former EPL) team presented the studies conducted on the areas and answered questions on the data. In addition, representatives of the Ministry of Infrastructure, the Investment Partnership Secretariat of the Ministry of Economy, and ANTAQ also participated.
On the first day, which was the PAR 15 hearing, 12 people participated in the process, both in person and virtually. Among them were representatives from the Brazilian Association of Port Terminals (ABTP) and port lawyers and consultants.
On the second day, dedicated to the PAR14 hearing, 32 showed up, including representatives of ABTP, the Association of Port Operators of the Port of Paranaguá (AOCEP), the local government, the Commercial and Industrial Association of Paranaguá, lawyers, and consultants.
The public consultation period for the two areas remains open until 11:59 pm on November 5th. To find out how to send contributions, access the Portos do Paraná website here.
