Record corn exports cause 50% growth in handling at the Port of São Francisco do Sul

 The Port of São Francisco do Sul handled 1.2 million tons in January, 50% more than in the same period last year (828 thousand tons).

 Exports totaled 707 thousand tons, twice as much as in the first month of 2022, when 363 thousand tons were sent abroad.

 Corn was mainly responsible for this increase, reaching 604 thousand tons, which means a historic record for the month of January.

 In those 30 days, nine ships left São Francisco do Sul, carrying an average of 67,000 tons of corn each.

 Among the other products exported by the Port in January, wood (34 thousand tons), cellulose (20 thousand tons) and vegetable oil (18 thousand tons) stand out.

 Import

 Imports of goods reached 547,000 tons in the first month of 2023, an increase of 17% compared to the same period in 2022 (466,000 tons).

 Steel products (steel coils, plates and bars) top the list with 314 thousand tons, followed by fertilizers (167 thousand tons) and marble stones (47 thousand tons).

 The president of the Port of São Francisco do Sul, Cleverton Vieira, celebrated the increase in January movement and assured that the port complex is prepared for this year’s record harvest.

 “The new administration of the Port is accelerating the necessary investments in the Bulk Terminal, with new road paving and revitalization of the rail access, in addition to maintaining the export corridor, with a view to ensuring that São Francisco do Sul can be an efficient and advantageous logistics alternative. for exporters”, he said, adding that, in recent months, R$ 8.5 million were invested in the work on the Grain Terminal.
