For the second straight month, the Port of Imbituba achieved standout results, reinforcing its growth trajectory. In February 2026, the port complex handled more than 641,000 tonnes of cargo and recorded 27 vessel calls, one of the best results in its history for the second month of the year.
According to Santa Catarina Ports, Airports and Railways Secretary Ivan Amaral, the port’s growth is directly linked to the strengthening of the state’s logistics infrastructure. “The Port of Imbituba’s performance reflects a joint effort by the government and the productive sector to improve the efficiency of our logistics and ensure greater competitiveness for Santa Catarina. Investing in ports means boosting industry, agribusiness, and generating jobs and income across the region,” he said.
By category, exports reached 392,500 tonnes, up 56% from January 2026 and 135% from February a year earlier. Shipments were driven mainly by calcined petroleum coke, non-calcined coke and corn meal.
For Port of Imbituba Chief Executive Christiano Lopes, the figures reflect ongoing work to strengthen infrastructure and operating efficiency at the port complex. “The results confirm the consistency of the strategy we are executing, focused on expanding logistics capacity, attracting new cargo and ensuring greater competitiveness for our clients. The performance recorded shows the market’s confidence in the Port of Imbituba and reinforces our role as a driver of development for Santa Catarina and for Brazilian foreign trade,” he said.
Imports totaled 189,800 tonnes, led by shipments of bituminous coal, salt, petroleum coke and industrial inputs, highlighting the diversity and strength of the production chains served by the Port of Imbituba.
Coastal shipping also posted significant growth. Outbound cabotage cargo reached 52,900 tonnes, up 24.8% from January, while inbound cabotage cargo totaled 6,200 tonnes.
In the first two months of 2026, solid bulk remained the main cargo segment, accounting for 78% of total throughput with 1.03 million tonnes. The main cargoes were petroleum coke, bituminous coal, bulk sugar, salt and corn meal.
The container segment, in clear expansion, already accounted for 14% of total cargo handled this year, at 180,600 tonnes, a clear sign of the port’s growing appeal for higher value-added cargo. General cargo also advanced and represented 8% of the cumulative total, at more than 102,000 tonnes, reinforcing Imbituba’s ability to handle products with greater logistics complexity.
Data from Brazil’s Ministry of Development, Industry, Trade and Services show that foreign trade operations through the Port of Imbituba totaled more than $323 million in January and February 2026, consolidating its contribution to the trade balance of Santa Catarina and Brazil.
