Port of Paranagua installs new road signs to improve traffic flow

Port authority Portos do Paraná is expanding the use of road signs in the Port of Paranagua with horizontal (road paintings) and vertical (standing signs) indications in its primary and back areas. The new traffic indications follow studies that aim to guarantee drivers a better experience and streamline the port’s logistical flow.
Priority was given to blue stripes, which guide pedestrians within the port area, and horizontal lines that determine vehicle lanes, limiting where cars, machines, and trucks can circulate.
New signs were also installed with speed limits, parking prohibited, attention to operational areas, escape routes, and indications to the terminals where the cargo is off-loaded.
According to the Occupational Health and Safety manager at Portos do Paraná, José Sbravatti, the orientation is for all users walking within the port area to use the blue lanes designated solely for pedestrians.
“They were designed to always be on the land side and away from the roads and areas operations are more concentrated, precisely to reduce people’s exposure to the ‘hot spots,’ which have an intense flow of vehicles and machines,” he says.
The blue lanes start at gate 2 (Dom Pedro II), with ramifications leading to the port’s eastern area up to berth 214. each exit gate. This entire stretch has vertical signs for pedestrians and white stripes, indicating preference, in front of each exit gate. On the westernmost side, they connect to berth 201, with a difference: the lane passes through an area with guardrails next to the Klabin warehouse, which provides greater security for users walking around the site.
In April, the horizontal and vertical signaling work will continue in the backport area and the screening yard of the Port of Paranaguá. It will also involve more ground signaling, with the installation of tacks for better traffic guidance.
