On May 25th, the president of Rio Grande do Norte’s port authority CODERN, Nino Ubarana, took part in the State Plenary of the Federal Government’s Pluriannual Plan (PPA) in the capital city, Natal. The event was attended by the Minister of Planning and Budget, Simone Tebet, the Chief Minister of the General Secretariat of the Presidency of the Republic, Márcio Macedo, and Governor Fátima Bezerra.
During the plenary, CODERN’s president asked Minister Tebet to allocate around BRL 150 million in the Pluriannual Plan for dredging the Port of Natal. The port’s access channel and basin were last deepened in 2012 to a depth of 12 meters, but due to the lack of maintenance, the Maritime Authority currently allows a maximum depth of 10 meters.
“The Port of Natal is strategically important for the social and economic development of Rio Grande do Norte. As ships are getting larger, we need to increase the depth of the Potengi River to accommodate them. This will attract new port operations, create jobs, and strengthen our state’s productive sector,” said Nino Ubarana.
Pluriannual Plan (PPA)
The Pluriannual Plan (PPA) sets out the federal administration’s guidelines, objectives, and goals, including capital expenditures and other related expenses, as well as those associated with long-term programs.
Throughout its term, the PPA serves as a guide for the Budget Guidelines Law (LDO) and the Annual Budget Law (LOA). The Federal Constitution also mandates that national, regional, and sectoral plans and programs align with the PPA.
