Peru’s decreased rice imports impact Brazil and Uruguay’s export markets

Peru imported 29,740,314 kilograms of paddy rice between January and April of this year, with a CIF value of US$ 20,708,775. These figures indicate a significant decline compared to the 51,546,405 kilograms imported during the same period in 2022, valued at $35,441,552.
According to a report from the Agrodata portal, Uruguay emerged as the primary rice supplier to Peruvian companies during the first four months of 2023, with sales reaching US$ 11,325,596 (accounting for 55% of the total national imports). Brazil followed with US$ 8,365,502, Thailand with US$ 805,617, and other countries with smaller values that summed up to US$ 212,060.

Notable importers in the sector include Costeño Alimentos SAC, which made acquisitions totaling US$ 3,952,259, Representaciones Super Mero Rice with US$ 3,000,381, Alejandrina Perú SAC with US$ 2,404,074, Comercial Isabelita with US$ 2,155,879, Importadora Misti SAC with US$ 1,509,433, Pacific Foods Trading SAC with US$ 1,343,738, Grupo Parcker SAC with US$ 1,335,236, SAC Grupo Fraile Rice with US$ 559,637, Interloom SAC with US$ 492,829, and others with smaller amounts.
