Producers look for cost-saving alternatives in the Port of Salvador

As the international market determines commodity prices, producers can only change their own costs. With that in mind, producer representatives met on Thursday (June 8) at the Bahia Farm Show to discuss logistical alternatives.

In this context, the Container Terminal at the Port of Salvador (Tecon Salvador) was seen as a potential alternative to Santos, which currently handles almost 90% of cotton production in the West. The issue lies in the fact that producers require inputs, which are primarily brought in through the Bay of All Saints in Bahia. However, when it comes to exports, the route ends up being redirected towards the Southeast.

New route

Tecon Salvador is now benefiting from a new regular coastal shipping service called Expresso Amazonas, provided by Log-in Logística Intermodal. This service aims to meet the growing demands of the Northeast and North regions, particularly in direct connection with the Manaus Industrial Pole (PIM), one of the key destinations for Bahia’s cargo. After departing from the Port of Salvador, the vessel calls at Suape and Pecém in the Northeast before reaching Manaus in the country’s North.
