Brazil’s National Agency for Waterway Transportation (ANTAQ) approved the start of the bidding process to select the companies that will operate terminals at the Organized Port of Itajaí on a temporary basis. The decision can be found in the country’s Official Gazette issued Friday, August 25.
The simplified selection process was requested by the Ministry of Ports and Airports (MPor) and aims to enter into a temporary leasing contract for handling containerized cargo and general cargo in the port based in Santa Catarina.
The kickoff ceremony for the simplified tender and the official start of the bidding submission season will take place on September 13, 2023, starting at 11 a.m., at the headquarters of ANTAQ.
The contract stipulates that the lessee may maintain operations at the port for two years, which can be extended under conditions specified in the selection process notice. All requirements and other participation conditions are available on the ANTAQ website through this link.
The temporary leasing process within ANTAQ fell under the responsibility of Director Caio Farias. According to him, the objective of both the MPor and the government body is to resume the activities of the port of Santa Catarina swiftly.
“This is the first time ANTAQ has directly designed and carried out a Simplified Selection Process for a temporary contract. We believe that the presented project will promote the full resumption of activities at the Port of Itajaí, something urgent and of paramount importance,” he affirmed.
