Transpetro, Petrobras’ largest subsidiary and the leading multimodal logistics company for oil and derivatives in Latin America concluded the year 2023 with contracts exceeding R$ 500 million. Most of these agreements were signed with companies outside the Petrobras System, marking a strategic move towards expanding private clientele.
With over 180 clients, 48 terminals (27 maritime and 21 land-based), approximately 8,500 kilometers of pipelines, and 36 ships, Transpetro stands out as a key player in the oil and derivatives logistics sector. Providing comprehensive logistics services on land and at sea to private clients is a primary goal for the company’s new management.
Transpetro’s extensive reach and operational expertise have driven increased demand from the private sector for new contracts, with the company successfully reaching its goal of generating new business. Sergio Bacci, president of Transpetro, emphasized the value that market players now see in the company’s experience and competence.
Bacci stated, “The capillarity and synergy of our operations create a significant competitive advantage in the logistics of oil, derivatives, and biofuels, allowing us to achieve our goal of generating new business.”
The company’s strategic approach to seeking business partners outside the Petrobras System is exemplified by recent contracts for ship-to-ship operations (transshipment of oil and derivatives between ships) in the Bay of All Saints, Bahia. These contracts involve various clients, including Acelen, Ream, and Seacrest.
According to Bacci, this logistical option allows for economies of scale in product movements with larger ships, potentially reducing maritime transportation costs by up to 30%.
In the Northern Region, Transpetro has initiated new ship-to-barge operations (transshipment of oil and derivatives between ships and barges) in various locations in the Amazon. This approach has proven crucial in maintaining fuel supplies during the region’s worst river low-water period. Clients served in the North by Transpetro include Raízen, Novum, and Ream.
In 2023, Transpetro made history by using one of its own fleet ships to serve a private client, signing a contract for the maritime transport of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) from Coari to Manaus.
Last year, Transpetro underwent administrative reorganization, establishing an Executive Management of New Business directly linked to the presidency. The company also increased the number of women in managerial positions by 48%. Currently, 96 administrative positions are held by female representatives. The company also recorded a 17% increase in professionals self-declared as Black, Brown, Yellow, and Indigenous in leadership roles.
For Transpetro’s new management, a safe and diverse working environment fosters business growth.
