Santos-Tunnel enters public consultation stage

On Wednesday afternoon (03/13), a public consultation was launched to gather inputs aimed at improving the Santos-Guarujá tunnel project. The launch event was held at the Ministry of Ports and Airports (Mpor), with the presence of Minister Silvio Costa Filho, Chief of Staff Minister Rui Costa, Governor of the State of São Paulo, Tarcísio de Freitas, President of the Santos Port Authority (APS), Anderson Pomini, City Mayor of Santos, Rogério Santos, among other authorities.
Anderson Pomini gave the inaugural speech, in which he demonstrated the feasibility of the tunnel, citing examples of similar projects either completed or ongoing around the world, and commended the public spirit of all present who supported the project. Deputy Paulo Alexandre Barbosa emphasized that the project is of great importance to the workers of the Santos region, who cross the port channel daily.
Governor Tarcísio Gomes de Freitas highlighted that several challenges were overcome to make this lifeturning project feasible: “The tunnel will be built, it will work, we will leave a legacy. Congratulations to all who fought for the tunnel,” he said.
Minister Silvio Costa Filho emphasized that the Federal Government is investing in Brazil by supporting this project, which should generate about 5,000 direct and indirect jobs. Silvio Costa Filho thanked the support of Governor Tarcísio and provided important details about the benefits of the tunnel for the country.
Chief of Staff Rui Costa made a point of recalling that the unity around the tunnel project demonstrates the importance of upholding national values. “These are national values; they represent the nation, the country, the society prevailing,” said the minister, emphasizing that the Brazilian people have resumed dialoguing amongst themselves, making protagonists of this historic moment.
