Türkiye opens three new markets, expanding trade with Brazil

The Brazilian government is already reaping the benefits of the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (Mapa) delegation’s last trade mission in Ankara, Türkiye, which ended just over sixty days ago. On May 2nd, Turkish health authorities granted approval for the international import of inedible gelatin and collagen, alongside egg products and organoleptic viscera for animal feed.
In early March this year, representatives from Mapa engaged in a series of meetings with Turkish officials to bolster cooperation and trade in agricultural products between the two nations. Led by Mapa’s Secretary of Commerce and International Relations, Roberto Perosa, the Brazilian delegation included SCRI’s deputy secretary, Julio Ramos, and Marcel Moreira, director of Mapa’s Commercial Promotion Department.
The agenda featured bilateral discussions with Ahmet Gümen, Deputy Minister of the Turkish Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, and Mustafa Kayhan, Director General of the Meat and Dairy Council, among others.
These three new market openings, the largest trade expansion to date by Türkiye, reaffirm international confidence in Brazil’s health control system and are expected to increase trade flow between the two countries.
Turkey stood as the 13th largest destination for Brazilian agricultural exports last year. In 2023 alone, Brazil exported agribusiness products valued at US$2.42 billion to the Turkish market, with significant contributions from the soybean complex, textile products, and coffee.
“The simultaneous opening of these three new markets represents a milestone in the commercial relations between Brazil and Turkey, underscoring the diligent efforts and dedication of Mapa’s technical team. This achievement underscores the quality and reliability of Brazilian agricultural products and underscores the increasing international trust in our health control system. It marks a significant stride towards expanding our commercial horizons and solidifying our global presence,” declared Perosa.
With the addition of these three new markets, Brazilian agribusiness has notched up 34 international commercial openings this year alone. Over the past 16 months, 112 new markets have been unlocked across 50 countries.
This positive outcome is the fruit of collaborative efforts between the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (Mapa) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MRE).
