April/24: Fertilizer deliveries to Brazilian market drop 0.6% year-on-year

Fertilizer deliveries to the Brazilian market in April 2024 amounted to 2.3 million tonnes, a slight decrease of 0.6% compared to 2.32 million tonnes in the same month last year. This data was recently disclosed by the National Association for Fertilizer Diffusion (Anda). Over the first four months of 2024, 10.97 million tonnes were delivered, marking a 1% increase from the 10.87 million tonnes registered during the same period in 2023.
Mato Grosso, the leader in market deliveries, accounted for the largest volume in this period (22.4%), reaching 2.46 million tonnes. Following Mato Grosso are Paraná (1.38 million tonnes), São Paulo (1.32 million tonnes), Minas Gerais (1.12 million tonnes), and Goiás (1.06 million tonnes).
National production of intermediate fertilizers in April 2024 stood at 504,000 tonnes, a 7.4% reduction compared to the same month in 2023. For the first four months of 2024, production totaled 1.99 million tonnes, an 11.9% decrease from the 2.26 million tonnes produced in the same period last year.
Imports of intermediate fertilizers in March 2024 totaled 2.57 million tonnes, an 18.1% reduction from the same month in the previous year. The first four months of 2024 saw total imports of 10.03 million tonnes, a 7.9% decrease from the 10.89 million tonnes imported during the same period in 2023.

The port of Paranaguá, the main entry point for fertilizers, received 2.86 million tonnes, a 0.5% increase from the 2.84 million tonnes offloaded in 2023. This terminal accounted for 28.5% of the total imports, according to the Agricultural Fertilizer and Corrective Industry Union in the State of São Paulo (Siacesp), as cited by Anda.
