Brazilian furniture and mattress exports surge in first half of the year

Week 202433

After five consecutive increases in 2024, furniture and mattress exports experienced their first month-over-month decline from May to June, with $58.3 million worth of products exported. This marks a 14.8% drop compared to the record results of the previous month. However, this decline did not affect the sector’s positive performance in the first half of 2024, which was 0.5% higher than the same period last year.

Moreover, the developments unfolded in June helped to minimize the cumulative decline over the past 12 months (due to the sector’s unstable performance in 2023), reducing it from -5.3% in May 2024 to -3.3% in June, bringing the sector closer to stability.

These findings were disclosed by Abimóvel (Brazilian Association of Furniture Industries), based on a survey conducted by Iemi exclusively for the Brazilian Furniture Sectoral Project, created in partnership with ApexBrasil (Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency).

Industry analysts note that despite these short-term challenges, the outlook for the second half of the year remains optimistic. Product diversification and a continued focus on strategic markets are among the factors contributing to this positive outlook.

“With the stabilization observed in recent months, we expect a solid recovery for the year, provided that market conditions continue to favor Brazilian exports. Companies in the sector must, therefore, remain focused on innovation, sustainable management, design, and quality to ensure international competitiveness, especially in a global economic environment that remains uncertain due to inflation, currency fluctuations, international conflicts, and significant electoral races,” said Irineu Munhoz, president of Abimóvel.

Abimóvel and ApexBrasil are organizing Trade Missions in key markets, bringing Brazilian brands to negotiate directly with buyers in foreign markets in an effort to further strengthen these trade connections. These initiatives include participation in the most significant events on the global furniture map, as well as initiatives like the Buyer Project, which facilitates business meetings between Brazilian industries and foreign buyers.

From August 20 to 22, 2024, Brazilian Furniture will participate in the Middle East Trade Mission in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. This initiative represents a strategic opportunity for Brazilian industries to establish a stronger presence in this rapidly growing market, gathering buyers from various countries in the region, one of the fastest-growing globally.
