Argentina: Government Imposes 40.49% Hike on Paraguay-Paraná Waterway Toll
Sep, 26, 2024 Posted by Gabriel MalheirosWeek 202438
The Argentine government has enforced a 40.49% increase in the toll rate for the Paraguay-Paraná Waterway, raising the fee from USD 3.06 to USD 4.30 per register tons (NRT).
Additionally, an automatic quarterly review will be implemented, adjusting the toll in accordance with the Consumer Price Index, as reported by Argenports.
While this price hike is lower than the initial proposal by the Argentine government, it remains one of the most significant increases in the cost of using the waterway.
The repercussions of this rise could be felt in production and export costs, potentially undermining the competitiveness of the agricultural sector.
Industry experts warn that revenues will fall short of covering the operational costs required to maintain the main navigational route.
