Vports and Multiilift completed the Vitória port complex’s first breakbulk coffee shipment using the big bag method, introducing new logistical and operational options to the coffee market.
A total of 8,452 tonnes of coffee were shipped in bulk bags destined for New Orleans, United States.
This operation is expected to streamline logistics by leveraging the greater availability of vessels capable of handling breakbulk cargo.
“This first shipment is an important milestone and a practical demonstration of our commitment to finding innovative logistics solutions,” said Gustavo Serrão, CEO of Vports. “For years, coffee has been exclusively shipped via containers at the Port of Vitória, so as the port authority, we’ve worked on redesigning and building this alternative.”
In addition, Vports restored two horizontal silos totaling 10,000 square meters, with the capacity to store 80,000 tonnes of grains—a project involving R$50.2 million in investments. These facilities are adaptable and suitable for storing coffee, malt, soymeal, and other products.
In the first two years of the concession, R$180 million was invested in infrastructure upgrades, including restoring the port complex’s rail spur. These investments are projected to increase Vitória Port’s cargo throughput by 80% over the next five years.
