Formula 1 has arrived in Brazil for the São Paulo Grand Prix, set for the upcoming weekend at the Interlagos Circuit. The planes that delivered cars, parts, and equipment left Viracopos International Airport in Campinas, São Paulo, loaded with tonnes of Brazilian fruit bound for major European markets.

Ginger, lemons, mangoes, and papayas grown in Brazil were flown to Amsterdam and then distributed via cargo carriers to other destinations across Europe. On the same day, shipments of papayas headed to Lisbon, Portugal, and mangoes to Paris, France, on commercial passenger flights. The total exported fruit volume reached 110,601 kilograms.

This operation was overseen by Viracopos’ Agricultural Surveillance System (Vigiagro), linked to the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock’s Agricultural Defense Secretariat. Tasked with inspecting agricultural products entering and leaving Brazil, the agency ensures the country’s biosecurity by preventing pests and diseases from entering the territory.

According to the Ministry, no refrigeration system is needed for these fruit shipments. However, swift transport is crucial to delivering fresh products to clients. The logistics process works as follows: each morning, shipments arrive at the airport docks, where quantities and identities are verified. If everything checks out, the products are certified and cleared for departure by the following morning.

Rita Lourenço, head of Vigiagro at Viracopos, highlighted the benefits of combining exports of domestic products with major events like the Grand Prix, which provides a strong boost to Brazil’s economy. “Whenever there is space on aircraft, opportunities to expand exports are seized,” she stated, according to the Ministry.
