Brazil’s number of cold storage facilities approved for meat exports to South Africa reach 19

The Brazilian government welcomed confirmation from South Africa approving an additional 19 meat processing plants to export Brazilian meat products. The approved facilities specialize in beef, pork, and poultry.

With these new approvals, a total of 28 Brazilian establishments are now authorized to export to South Africa, including those with updated certification status. The newly approved facilities are located across nine Brazilian states. São Paulo leads with six plants, followed by Rio Grande do Sul, Paraná, Mato Grosso do Sul, Santa Catarina, Minas Gerais, Bahia, Goiás, and Rio de Janeiro.

The distribution includes eight beef plants, two for equine meat, five for pork, and thirteen for poultry. Brazil remains a global leader in meat exports in 2024, with over 7 million tonnes shipped so far. These new approvals reflect a coordinated effort between the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (Mapa) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MRE).
