The Federal Government, through the Ministry of Ports and Airports (MPor), officially resumed the management of Itajaí Port this Tuesday (17). The initiative aims to promote economic development in Santa Catarina, boost job and income generation, and ensure the continuity of port operations.

Port activities were suspended in 2022 when the federal administration intended to privatize the facility. In December 2023, a provisional contract was signed under the current government, allowing the resumption of activities, regularization of the port, and the re-establishment of its economic relevance in Santa Catarina.

The decision to take over Itajaí Port’s management came after extensive discussions within the government. It was determined that the management would be carried out by the Santos Port Authority (APS). This choice followed recommendations to assign Itajaí Port’s administration to a company with strong managerial expertise and financial stability, ensuring the continuity of operations, preservation of jobs, and efficient cargo handling.

Minister of Ports and Airports Silvio Costa Filho emphasized, “The joint effort between the two ports strengthens logistical competitiveness, facilitates the optimization of routes and operations, and enhances efficiency in serving international markets, driving economic development in both regions.”
