Brazilian exports of poultry genetics (fertile eggs and day-old chicks) generated revenue 5.4% higher in February this year, according to the Brazilian Animal Protein Association (ABPA), with US$20.4 million recorded in the second month of the year compared to US$19.4 million last year. Volumes shipped in February totaled 1,753 tons, a figure 33.8% lower than in the previous year, which recorded 2,646 tons.
For the two months, export revenue reached US$39.9 million, 2.3% higher than the US$38.7 million recorded last year. 3,891 tons were exported, 23.9% lower than last year, when 5,116 tons were shipped.
The leading destination of February’s exports was Mexico, which imported 863 tons, 0.2% less than in the same period last year. Following Mexico were Venezuela with 243 tons (+356.7%), Paraguay with 218 tons (–23.9%), Senegal with 187 tons (–70%), and Côte d’Ivoire with 64 tons (+611.4%).
“This month’s exports were marked by countries investing in recovering or expanding their local poultry industry. This is particularly the case with Venezuela, which has recorded significant increases in imports over recent months,” stated ABPA president Ricardo Santin.
