Brazilian Foreign Trade Reaches USD 11.5 Billion in Third Week of December

In the third week of December 2024, Brazil’s trade balance recorded a trade flow of USD 11.5 billion, with a deficit of USD 0.3 billion, resulting from exports worth USD 5.6 billion and imports totaling USD 5.9 billion.
So far in December, exports amount to USD 17 billion, while imports total USD 15.7 billion, generating a surplus of USD 1.3 billion and a trade flow of USD 32.7 billion.
Year-to-date, Brazil’s foreign trade recorded exports of USD 329.3 billion and imports of USD 258.1 billion, resulting in a surplus of USD 71.2 billion and a total trade flow of USD 587.4 billion. The Foreign Trade Secretariat (Secex) of the Ministry of Development, Industry, Commerce, and Services (MDIC) released these figures on Monday (12/23).
Regarding exports, comparing the daily averages recorded up to the third week of December 2024 (USD 1.1 billion) with those of the same period in December 2023 (USD 1.4 billion), there was a reduction of 21.3%. On the other hand, imports grew by 7.6%, increasing from a daily average of USD 973 million in December 2023 to USD 1 billion in 2024. Consequently, by the third week of December 2024, the daily average trade flow reached USD 2.18 billion, while the daily average surplus was USD 86.47 million. Compared to the same period in the previous year, the trade flow declined by 9.6%.
In the cumulative exports up to the third week of December 2024, compared to the same period of the previous year, the daily average performance by sector was as follows: Agriculture recorded a decline of USD 65.28 million (-25.2%), the Extractive Industry dropped USD 190.11 million (-49.6%), and products from the Manufacturing Industry decreased by USD 50.05 million (-6.3%).
For imports, in the same period, Agriculture recorded a growth of USD 4.77 million (25.2%), while the Extractive Industry showed a slight decline of USD 0.64 million (-1.4%). In comparison, products from the Manufacturing Industry increased by USD 67.31 million (7.5%).
