TCP Transitions to CTOS Terminal Operating System

On June 1, TCP—the company that operates the Paranaguá Container Terminal—completed its transition to the CTOS (Container Terminal Operation System), the standard platform used by terminals managed by China Merchants Port Holding Company (CMPort), China’s most prominent public port developer, investor, and operator. The transition was completed one month ahead of schedule, with the data migration process taking approximately seven hours to complete.

Currently, the CTOS and its locally supported secondary development systems are operating stably and performing reliably. Terminal operations and customer service are progressing smoothly.

During the implementation phase, TCP registered around 1,200 new functional improvements to CTOS. The system review and customization included numerous tailored features, such as TCP’s exclusive rail access, digitalization processes, and services related to its bonded import warehouse, KBT multimodal transport, and billing system.

CTOS also brings enhancements to information management for rail cargo, general cargo, end customers, and third-party drivers. Other benefits include more precise tools for managing productivity, yard and quay equipment, and user permissions.

These new business scenarios further enrich CTOS functionality, evolving it into a flexible and configurable platform shaped by real-time feedback.

TCP’s CTOS project is complex, long-term, high-impact, and held to strict standards, yet the system change did not interrupt the terminal’s continuous, high-performance operations. Teams from TCP and China Merchants International Technology Company overcame significant challenges, including language barriers, the large time zone difference between China and Brazil, strict customs oversight, operational complexity, rounds of testing, system updates, and data migration—ultimately completing the first CTOS transition project in South America.

Below is a historical overview of container handling at the Port of Paranaguá since 2022. The chart is based on DataLiner data:

As CTOS enters a stable operational phase, TCP will continue to advance its strategy focused on digitalization and low-carbon emissions, further consolidating its regional leadership in the industry and aiming to become the largest port services provider for customers on South America’s East Coast.
