The Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (Mapa) published Ordinance No. 749 in the Official Gazette of the Union this Thursday (26). The Ordinance establishes the ePhyto Sanitary Certification System. The platform enables the online issuance of phytosanitary certificates, ensuring plant product health and expediting information exchange between countries.

The issuance of digital certificates aims to facilitate Brazilian exports of plant-based products by securely and authentically transmitting data between the exporting and importing countries’ National Plant Protection Organizations (NPPO).

Online sanitary certification: benefits for plant product exports

The ePhyto system is expected to enhance efficiency in Brazilian exports, reduce operational costs, and minimize cargo storage time at ports. This initiative enables the electronic exchange of phytosanitary certificates with other countries, eliminating the need for physical documents.

The system is exclusively intended for the electronic phytosanitary certification of plant products classified under simplified requirements. It will be available for exports conducted from any location in Brazil to countries that accept the electronic format.

For countries that do not yet operate with the digital format, the certificate’s authenticity can be verified and downloaded as a PDF file containing a QR code and an electronic signature for validation.

Implementation and requirements

The issuance of electronic certificates will become mandatory starting January 13, 2025, when the Ordinance takes effect.

More information about ePhyto can be found on the official website: ePhyto Exchange.
