Number of Brazilian States Authorized to Export Meat to Peru Rises from 1 to 7

Through the National Agricultural Health Service (Senasa), the Peruvian government authorized on Tuesday (14) the approval of nine new Brazilian meat processing plants to export products to Peru. Until now, only the state of Acre was authorized to export pork to the country. With the new approvals, processing plants in Goiás, Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul, Paraná, and São Paulo can also export pork. Additionally, a poultry processing plant in Rio Grande do Sul has been added to the list of authorized exporters.
Since January 2023, Acre has been the only Brazilian state exporting pork to the Peruvian market. This expansion reflects the results of trade negotiations between the two countries and brings new opportunities for Brazil’s meat production chain.
Growth in Trade with Peru
In 2024, Brazil exported over $755 million in agricultural products to Peru, including animal proteins, soybeans, textile fibers, fruits, nuts, and dairy products. Specifically in the meat sector, Brazilian exports surpassed $141 million last year.
With the approval of new meat processing plants, significant growth in pork and poultry exports is expected. This will further increase Brazil’s market share in Peru and benefit the entire production chain—from farmers to processors and distributors.
This expansion marks a milestone in trade relations between Brazil and Peru, strengthening Brazil’s agribusiness sector and consolidating the country’s position as one of Latin America’s leading animal protein suppliers.
