Last Monday (27), TCP, the company managing the Paranaguá Container Terminal, became a signatory of the Sustainability Pact, an initiative led by the Ministry of Ports and Airports (Mpor) aimed at transforming social and environmental management in the logistics sector. The event occurred at B3 headquarters in São Paulo and was led by Minister Sílvio Costa Filho.
The signing occurred during the launch ceremony of the new Sustainability Policy, which establishes criteria for awarding recognition seals—bronze, silver, gold, and diamond—to companies and institutions in the logistics sector committed to the 2030 Agenda’s sustainability goals, such as reducing greenhouse gas emissions and implementing social and environmental programs.
“Committing to sustainability is essential for any company that wants to sustain its business in the long term. In particular, we face significant climate and social risks in the port sector. That’s why making TCP a signatory of the Sustainability Pact on its launch day reinforces the Paranaguá Container Terminal’s commitment to leading initiatives that reduce pollutant emissions and strengthen the port’s relationship with the community,” stated Rafael Stein, TCP’s Institutional and Legal Manager, who represented the terminal at the ceremony.
The Paranaguá Container Terminal is already recognized for its sustainability initiatives, such as a pilot project converting RTG cranes from combustion generator groups to electric motors, achieving, for the second consecutive year, the I-REC certification, which verifies that 100% of the electricity used in port operations comes from renewable sources, and using an electric bus to transport employees within the operations yard.
“As a signatory of the United Nations Global Compact since 2016, ESG practices focused on sustainability, good governance, and social responsibility are already pillars of TCP. Now, with our adherence to the Sustainability Pact of the Ministry of Ports and Airports, we further strengthen the competitiveness of the Paranaguá Container Terminal in the international market and renew our commitment to continuing investments in the decarbonization of our operations and the creation of social impact through our socio-environmental programs,” highlighted Kayo Zaiats, TCP’s Environmental Manager.
