CODEBA reports record first-half cargo volumes at Bahia’s public ports

Bahia’s public ports handled 22.49% more cargo between January and June 2026 than in the same period last year, marking their highest first-half volume on record.

At the Port of Itajaí, in Santa Catarina state, which is temporarily being managed by the Federal Port Authority CODEBA, cargo throughput rose 40.97%.

The Port of Aratu-Candeias handled the largest volume during the first half, with 3.70 million metric tons moved from January to June. The result represents a 26.09% increase compared with the same period in 2025.

Exports through Aratu-Candeias rose 95.77%, while imports grew 12.99%. In June alone, the port handled 692,200 metric tons, up 30.17% from June 2025.

The Port of Salvador handled 3.79 million metric tons in the first half of 2026, a 20.94% increase year on year. Imports rose 31.84%, while exports posted a slight gain of 2.47%.

In June, Salvador moved 703,900 metric tons, up 44.52% from the same month last year.

At the Port of Ilhéus, in southern Bahia, first-half throughput totaled 89,900 metric tons. In June, the terminal handled 11,900 metric tons, a 0.64% increase compared with June 2025.

CODEBA highlighted the port’s first-ever shipment of magnesium oxide, carried out in June. The operation involved 8,700 metric tons bound for the Port of New Orleans in the United States and added a new type of cargo to the terminal’s portfolio.
