Northern Arc Ports Lead Soybean and Corn Exports

According to ANTAQ’s Statistical Yearbook, the private ports of the Northern Arc handled 52.3 million tons of soybeans and corn for export in 2024. This volume accounted for 47.4% of national corn exports, 18.4 million tons, and 35.3% of soybean exports, totaling 34.4 million tons. The performance surpassed traditional corridors such as Santos, which shipped 16.7 million tons of corn (42% of the total) and 27.9 million tons of soybeans (28.3%).

Despite the challenges of extreme drought in 2024, the region’s ports maintained efficient operations, driven by continuous investments in infrastructure and measures to ensure competitiveness. Modernization and increased shipping capacity were key factors in overcoming climatic difficulties.

Infrastructure investments remain a priority to mitigate the effects of prolonged droughts. DNIT’s planned dredging of critical points along the Tapajós River is one key initiative to ensure navigability and prevent transport disruptions. Measures like this are essential for the sector’s sustainable development and the regional economy.

With a current capacity of 52 million tons, the sector is already projecting significant growth. Ongoing investments are expected to double this capacity within the next five years, enabling the shipment of up to 100 million tons of grains. The outlook points to a promising future for the Northern Arc ports, which continue to establish themselves as a key pillar of Brazil’s export logistics.
