The Port of Fortaleza has received 14,000 tonnes of asphalt cement. The cargo was imported by Companhia Brasileira de Asfalto da Amazônia (CBAA) and is being transported to an industrial facility in Guaiuba, in the metropolitan region. The operation involves 120 workers and 60 trucks.
The Port of Fortaleza is a strategic hub for operations, whose goal is to distribute cargo to all states in the Northeast and several others across the country. The raw material will also be used to produce asphalt emulsion—a mixture of asphalt crushed into small particles, water, and additives—mainly applied for waterproofing structures and paving roads.
With this operation, the total volume of asphalt cement handled by the Port of Fortaleza this year has reached 21,000 tons. The first operation took place in April, with 7,000 tons.
The Port of Fortaleza began handling asphalt cement last year, with a total of 76,000 tons transported across 11 vessels.
