A survey released this Wednesday (6) by the National Confederation of Industry (CNI) shows that 77.8% of Brazilian exports to the United States are subject to additional tariffs imposed by Donald Trump. The monitoring is based on data from the United States International Trade Commission.
Of that 77.8%, 45.8% have been hit with tariffs of 40% or 50%, according to the CNI.
A 50% tariff—the highest rate—applies to 41.4% of Brazil’s export basket to the US, affecting 7,691 products across various sectors. In 2024, exports of these goods totaled US$17.5 billion.
CNI estimates that the manufacturing industry, Brazil’s main exporting segment to the US, accounts for 69.9% of that value, with 7,184 products affected, together totaling US$12.3 billion in exports last year.
The sectors with the highest number of products impacted by the 50% surcharge include: apparel and accessories (14.6%), machinery and equipment (11.2%), textiles (10.4%), food (9.0%), chemicals (8.7%), and leather and footwear (5.7%).
While confirming the 50% tariff against Brazil, Trump spared around 700 items, which are subject to a lower 10% rate. According to CNI, these exemptions are concentrated mainly in the extractive industry, which accounts for 68.9% of the exempted exports—such as oil, for example.
